Urgent and relevant: Israeli Songs of Harmony and Hope

concert 26 mei Amstelveen

vier musici

The successful Israeli-Dutch band, created a few years ago, brings to the Dutch-Jewish and Israeli communities the Israeli songs of harmony and hope.

And especially these turbulent days, their music and message are as urgent and relevant as ever.

The 4-men strong Zan Nadir (Hebrew for ‘a rare species’) was created in 2019 and had since numerous performances for enthusiastic singing and dancing public, all ones in The Netherlands.

Initiated by Gilad Nezer, who is better known as the cantor of LJG Amsterdam.

Gilad was born in Israel and came to the Netherlands in 2002, to study opera singing at the Koninklijke Conservatorium in Den Haag. Gilad likes to explore the links between music and the human soul. He sees music, and making music together, as a means to promote and stimulate the quality of interpersonal communication, by developing creativity and emotional connection.

Besides his cantorial work, he is a member of the Netherlands Chamber Choir, and he gives various workshops, training and individual coaching in the field of ‘musical communication’.

Eyal Margalit, Yishay Glick and Chen Har Even

Together with Gilad, three musicians Eyal Margalit (guitar), Yishay Glick (bass) and Chen Har Even (percussion) form the energetic Zan Nadir band. These musicians share and celebrate, besides their international careers, Israeli music.

Zan Nadir performs in Hebrew, with the Dutch translation of all the songs projected on the screen behind them.

The public is welcome to join the singing, and sometimes, even spontaneous dancing takes place.

Next show

The next show will take place on Sunday, May 26th, 20:00, in a theater in Amstelveen. (The exact location, for clear reasons, will only be given to ticket holders. For the same clear reasons, there will be security…)

Want a taste of what’s to come?

Israeli songs can best be described as ‘fusion cuisine’. This is because Israel is a migration country that knows how to combine many styles of music. It is a preserving jar where all the flavors merge and reinforce each other. Often tasty and sometimes spicy. A true proof of the validity of co-existence…

Some of the early Israeli songs are deeply rooted in Eastern European Jewish chants and Russian sing-along songs. At the same time, Israeli music is inspired by the oriental: music from Arab countries and music from the Mediterranean.

Over time, influences from other countries have been added — so you find Greek melodies next to American, French next to Brazilian next to Arabic rhythms and this makes the whole thing interesting.

Mijn geliefde land

The Hebrew language is compact and therefore expressive. This way the listener experiences something, regardless of knowledge of the Hebrew language.

For example: בארץ אהבתי

Mijn geliefde land
Tekst: L. Goldberg
Muziek: M. Amarillo

Mijn geliefde land – daar bloeit de amandelboom
Bij de poorten van mijn geliefde land
wachten allen voor de bezoeker:
Zeven jonge vrouwen, zeven moeders, zeven bruiden.
